The Economic Cooperation Organization Educational Institute (ECO - EI) organized a two-day, Common History, Culture, Education and Civilization Symposium on 27-28 September 2019 in Ankara.
83 papers were presented in 19 sessions in two days
In the symposium, 83 papers on historical and contemporary examples of connectivities among ECO member countries were presented. Scientists from 16 different countries discussed their research from a wide range of fields such as Philosophy, Science, Education, Religion, Literature, History, Language, Politics, International Relations, Economics, Urbanism and Museology.
The symposium is the most recent of the activities by ECO-EI to follow the developments in the field of education, culture and science and share the gains among the member countries.
The opening speeches were made by the President of the Turkish Historical Society Dr. Prof. Dr. Refik Turan and President of ECO-EI. Prof. Dr. M. Akif Kireçci. Deputy Minister of National Education Prof. Dr. Mustafa Safran's written message was also delivered to the participants.
“We must protect the right to education”
The opening panel of the symposium which was moderated by Prof. Dr. M. Akif Kireçci, started with the presentation by the Deputy Minister of Education of the Islamic Republic of Iran Assoc. Dr. Gholamreza Karimi, titled “Trends and Challenges for Refugee and Migrant Education in the ECO Member States.” Assoc. Dr. Karimi, stated that Pakistan, Turkey and Iran and has made considerable achievements in refugee and migrant education, but stressed that there is still a need for further cooperation to overcome the difficulties and to protect the right to education. The second presentation of the opening panel was delivered by Major General Syed Khalid Amir Jaffery, the president of the Global Center for Strategic Studies in Pakistan. In his speech titled "Central Asia, Turkey and between Cultural and Religious Cohesion and Impact on Future Multilateral Strategic Partnership" Jaffery pointed to the deep connection between the peoples of the ECO region and, said strengthening our common cultural ties would help establish a strong foundation for future strategic partnerships. This panel concluded with Prof. Dr. Bahar Jalali’s talk on the "Modernization in the Context of the Historical Relation of Turkey and Afghanistan." Prof. Dr. Jalali shed light on the origins of Turkish-Afghan relations at the beginning of the twentieth century, while emphasizing the contribution of Turkish experts to the modernization process in Afghanistan's education and military fields.
The symposium lasted for two days and were held in parallel sessions in three different halls. Among the papers presented, some examples are as follows: “The Effect of Transoxanian Ulamas on the Formation of Ottoman Kalam Thought ”,“Kazakhstan's Security Concept ”, “Jadidism Activities in Bukhara”, Emergence of Age of Reason and Scientific Knowledge in Medieval Civilizations ”, “The Influence of Turkic and Iranian Muslim Peoples in Tatar Religious Song Tradition”, “The Socio-Economic Transformation of Central Asian Cities Under Mongolian Rule ”, and “The Hanafi-Maturidi Conception of Faith in the Context of Liberty and Its Contemporary Relevance and Significance "
