The Regional Planning Council (RPC)'s 29th Meeting, was held on 17-20 December 2018 in Tehran. Delegations from the ECO Member States and observers as well as heads and officials from the ECO Regional Institutions, Specialized Agencies and Affiliated Bodies participated in the meeting.
In his opening speech, ECO Secretary Ambassador General Dr. Hadi Soleimanpour referred to the value of the organization's new orientation towards a project-oriented one, wished that RPC will elaborate on innovative ideas to promote trade in the region and at his closing speech he thanked the member states for their proposal to conduct Ministerial Meetings in the forthcoming year.
During the RPC, eight Sectoral Committees such as “Human Resources and Sustainable Development”, “Projects, Economic Research and Statistics” and “Trade and Investment” deliberated numerous issues and at the closing session, the Draft Report, Work Program 2019 and the Calendar of Events 2019 were endorsed by the Council, which are to be carried out within the coming year.
ECOEI President Prof. Kirecci discussed the latest academic accomplishments and activities of the Institute, such as “Language Teaching and Learning Workshop” held on October 19-20, 2018 in Ankara. He also elaborated the plan of organizing a conference on the teaching of history, literature and cultural heritage in ECO Member States in the Republic of Turkey. He emphasized the importance of member states' guidance to ECOEI and invited them to convey their educational and higher education needs and concerns to the Institute. He also highlighted how the Institute is pleased to extend collaboration to achieve the common goals and objectives of the ECO Vision.
The next RPC meeting will be held on 14-17 January 2020 in the ECO Secretariat, Tehran.
