Visit by H.E. İsmet Korukoğlu, the Ambassador of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus to Türkiye to ECOEI

ECOEI President Prof. M. Akif Kireçci received H.E. İsmet Korukoğlu, the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus' Ambassador to Ankara at the headquarters of the Economic Cooperation Organization Educational Institute on December 7, 2022.

President Kireçci provided H.E. Korukoğlu with information regarding the Institute's purpose, background, and organizational structure. He also updated Mr. Ambassador on recent events and activities including the publication of the edited two-volume book Connectivities and Common Legacies in Central Asia, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iran and Turkeythat consists of a collection of 46 papers that were presented at the Common History, Culture, Education and Civilization Symposium regarding the common heritage of Member Countries of ECO. H.E. Korukoğlu was also informed about the publication of a series of reports about language teaching and learning in Turkish and English. The reports cover the challenges of teaching and learning Turkish, Persian, Kazak, Kyrgyz, Azeri Turkish, Urdu, Uzbek, and Turkmen, and also include policy recommendations. President Kireçci also invited H.E. Korukoğlu to the second of ECOEI’s mathematics education workshops which would be held in 8-9 December 2022, with nearly 30 academics and teachers discussing problems, solutions, and new methods regarding mathematics education in Türkiye.

President Kireçci also conveyed future plans and projects of the ECO Educational Institute to the Ambassador. These include the Education Thinkers Seminar on December 23-24, a graduate study visit program in the field of language, preparation and publication of International Student Guidebook, music teacher exchange program, report on the Physics Education as well as the creation of the StudyinECO.org webpage, which will provide information and resources for students interested in studying in the ECO region. 

During the visit, Ambassador Korukoğlu and President Kireçci discussed the possibility of organizing a workshop on the internationalization of universities with the participation of rectors from universities in Cyprus and experts from the region. The workshop was initially scheduled for March 2020, but has faced several delays.

The Parties reiterated their commitment to strengthen cooperation.
