Iranian Deputy Education Minister Visits ECO Educational Institute to Advance Cooperation
15 September 2026

The Deputy Minister of Education of the Islamic Republic of Iran, H.E. Dr. Muhammad Salimi, visited the Headquarters of the ECO Educational Institute (ECOEI) in Ankara on 14 September 2026. Dr. Salimi was accompanied by a delegation of diplomats from the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Ankara and officials from Iran's Ministry of Education. The visit is the latest step in a growing dialogue between the Institute and one of the Economic Cooperation Organization's founding member states.

The visit followed an earlier introductory session between Deputy Minister H.E. Dr. Muhammad Salimi and Prof. Dr. M. Akif Kireçci, the President of ECOEI. That first meeting laid the groundwork, while the latest talks focused on concrete ways to strengthen educational cooperation and exchanged views on possible areas of mutual interest.

The delegation and Institute officials also discussed ECOEI's forthcoming Board of Trustees meeting. The Board is the Institute's governing body, bringing together representatives of member states to review activities, approve plans and set strategic direction. Iran's input ahead of the session is expected to help shape the agenda and the programmes considered there.

The Deputy Minister's visit highlights Iran's continued engagement with ECOEI's educational work. Both sides are expected to build on discussions leading up to the Board of Trustees meeting.
